These holiday months can be difficult for a lot of people, and even more so for some of those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Some of us may be dreading dodging questions about partners or haircuts. Some of us are filling days  with celebrations with our family of choice.

Advertisements and companies try really hard to make us feel like we need to blow our budget on gifts and spending all our time with family or running from event to event at an unsustainable pace of joy and celebration.

I’m here to tell you that just as there is no one right way to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer, there is no one right way to do holidays or any kind of celebration for that matter!  Even if you LOOOOOOOOVE all the spirit of holidays, it’s okay to say no to an event or two! Take some time for yourself to rest and relax. Ask yourself when was the last time you had some water, a snack, a hug, a nap?   If you find yourself struggling a little more lately, we’ve put together some resources for you!

So whether you fall into camp “The only good holiday is the day after Halloween  candy sale day” or “I can’t wait to see Aunt Brenda” be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break, limit time with toxic people and find a tradition that is important to you!

Speaking of traditions…. Check out the blog .  A bunch of supportive mommas write letters to those who need an extra virtual hug right now.  Stop by and read some of the lovely notes they leave for LGBTQ+ youth.

Another page with some excellent resources is Everyone is Gay    They have a collection of resources for parents/caregivers as well as youth.  If you are looking for some information to share with family, you can start here.  They also have some holiday specific resources here:

The Safe Out team has been hard at work creating a couple fun things of our own to give your mind and emotions a fun little break!

Self Care LGBTQ  asks some hard hitting questions to get you thinking about the important things like “What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?”  Go on, we’re waiting for you to tell us!

Safe Out Bingo is fun for all ages! See how many you can tick off before the end of 2018!

Above all else, know that you aren’t alone. And if you are in crisis, you can find help through any of the resources listed in our resource section.
